Top 7 week: what the judges said
In an effort to rectify last week’s show time over-run, this week’s show limited the time the judges were given to comment on the performances. Specifically, they were limited to only 2 out of the 4 judges to comment on any one of the 7 finalists. Here are what they said:
* Allison - “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith
Paula: You possess the same special sauce that Adam does. You are authentic. You are a remarkable and talented young lady. Simon: You are the girls’ only hope left in this competition. You are getting stronger and more confident. We could see you all the way through the end now.
* Anoop - “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams
Randy: I thought this was going to be really rough but the last couple of weeks you have found your zone. It was in tune and you had some emotion to it. Kara: You have found your place in pop songs. I thought it was one of your best performances. The changes in the melody came from your heart.
* Adam - “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf
Paula: You dare to dance in the path of greatness. Fortune rewards the brave. Simon: Vocally it was incredible but there will be a portion of the audience that will love it and a portion that will hate it. It won’t be as popular as your performance last week, that was more original and current.
* Matt - “To Really Love a Woman” by Bryan Adams
Randy: It started out kind of cool but it was a bit pitchy. You fell down in more places than you won tonight. It wasn’t one of your best performances. Kara: Some weeks you nail it but tonight you took away some of the core melodies that make that song great.
* Danny - “Endless Love” by Diana Ross
Paula: From the opening I was thought the key should have been lower but you pulled it together. That was a beautiful rendition. Simon: You are a brilliant singer, but I am disappointed we had a very traditional version of the song. I was bored.
* Kris - “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
Randy: For me, it never caught on for me. It was pitchy from not one. Kara: Difficult to pick an obscure song like that but for me it was one of your best moments.
* Lil - “The Rose” by Bette Midler
Paula: You couldn’t have sung a better lyric. Simon: Once again you are getting this completely wrong. It was too soft for you. you had some nice moments in there. You are not the artist we met seven or eight weeks ago.
