Singing “Tracks of My Tears”, Adam Lambert showed his softer side on American Idol’s Top 10 Week show and earned a standing ovation for his performance.

For the performance, Adam gel-ed his black hair back into an Elvis-style pompadour, exchanging his rocker outfits for a sleek silver suit.

The week’s guest mentor Smokey Robinson, who wrote and performed the song with the Miracles, got to his feet after watching the 26-year-old theater actor’s performance during Wednesday’s Motown-themed installment of the “Fox” singing competition. Judge Simon Cowell said Adam’s was the night’s best performance. Fellow judge Kara Dioguardi agreed and said that Adam showed “true artistry.”

The judges were also impressed by the vocal skills of Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud and Kris Allen. Cowell liked Kris’ cover of “How Sweet It Is” but said that the 23-year-old married heartthrob needed to show more confidence.

The judges gave mixed reviews to Lil Rounds and Danny Gokey for their respective renditions of “Heat Wave” and “Get Ready.” Simon told Lil that she had missed a potential “Idol-defining moment” by picking the wrong song. He also called Danny’s performance “clumsy and amateurish.”

Michael Sarver and Megan Joy Corkrey had a tougher time with the judges. They slammed Michael’s cover of “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, comparing the performance to an old-school Vegas lounge act.

The Top 10 Week Results Show  on Wednesday revealed Michael to be the one who had scored the least votes with the American public. He was sent packing after his attempt to save himself with another rendition of “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” failed with the judges. Along with Michael in the Bottom 3 for the week were Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre.
